City Market acquisition: former Yesh Hesed CEO Daniel Verdiger buys 11 stores for 35 million shekels

Daniel Verdiger’s acquisition of 11 City Market supermarkets marks his latest expansion in the neighborhood retail sector. Eighteen months after leaving Shufersal, the veteran retail executive agreed to buy the branches for roughly 35 million shekels. The deal values each store at an average of 3.2 million shekels. However, the parties have not disclosed revenue figures or the profitability of individual branches. They have also not released the final terms of the deal.
The stores average 400 square meters and primarily serve as neighborhood grocery stores. Together, they cover locations in Tel Aviv, Be’er Ya’akov, Ramla, Kfar Saba, Be’er Sheva, Kiryat Ono, Rehovot, Hadera, Or Yehuda, and Gedera.
Before the deal can close, it must receive approval from the Israel Competition Authority. All 11 stores currently close on Shabbat. Verdiger plans to maintain the existing operating schedule.
The acquisition will add a third line of business to Verdiger’s retail operations, alongside discount stores and e-commerce. Earlier in 2026, he opened the first “100 and More” discount store in Ashdod. He also launched the Komplet online shopping platform.
Verdiger previously spent about 12 years managing Yesh Hesed. That experience gave him extensive knowledge of the shopping habits of Israel’s religious and ultra-Orthodox consumers. Following regulatory approval and the closing of the deal, all 11 stores will reopen under a new brand.
