Israel Katz: The Aim of the Attempted Terror Attack on Flydubai Was to Crash the Plane

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a special statement on September 30, officially classifying the incident on a Flydubai flight as an attempted jihadist terrorist attack. According to the defense chief, the attacker intended to crash the airliner, which would have resulted in the deaths of everyone on board.

 

The tragedy was averted thanks to the decisive actions of several Israeli passengers. They breached the cockpit, subdued the terrorist and handed control of the aircraft to other pilots who were among the passengers.

 

Praising the heroism of his fellow citizens and their key role in saving hundreds of lives, Katz pointed to recent intelligence warnings regarding an increasing terrorist threat. The minister strongly urged the public to remain vigilant and to treat such risks with the utmost seriousness.
