Milei Criticizes the UN in New York and Quotes Ludwig von Mises

The Argentine president addressed the 81st session in New York, accusing the UN of promoting chaos and quoting the Austrian economist.

Argentine President Javier Milei addressed the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23, 2026. He dismissed the organization as useless and accused it of serving a “caste of arrogant bureaucrats.”

The Argentine leader quoted Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises: “Good people do not seek to control the lives of others.” This phrase quickly circulated across the media and social networks.

Milei contrasted the UN’s founding goals in 1945 with its current track record. Instead of defending freedoms, he stated, the organization harbors dictatorships and allows international terrorism to flourish. He also pointed to systematic votes against Israel and the silence regarding the genocide of Christians in Africa.

This was Milei’s third address to the UN. Since taking office in December 2023, he has consistently championed the principle of non-intervention in citizens’ private affairs and the concept of freedom of choice.
