Netanyahu responds to Britain and France’s accusations of Israeli colonialism

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly rejected accusations of colonialism leveled against Israel by Britain and France. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on September 24, 2026, he called such claims paradoxical.
“They accuse tiny Israel of colonialism. What colonialism?” Netanyahu said. “Among those making the accusations are people in Britain and France. For God’s sake, they invented the term. Their colonies covered the entire planet.”
The prime minister stressed that criticism from countries that once controlled vast colonial empires appears inconsistent. Such accusations against Israel lack any historical basis.
The remarks came amid growing international pressure on Israel, including from several European states.
