Shin Bet Foils Terror Attack in Jerusalem Hotel: Employee Charged with Spying for Hamas

Details of a new national security case have been cleared for publication in Israel. At the center of the investigation is a 21-year-old resident of East Jerusalem who worked at a well-known hotel in the capital. Recently, the young man was indicted on severe charges of espionage for the Hamas terrorist organization. Thanks to the suspect’s arrest last month, a major terrorist attack directly inside the hotel was thwarted at the last minute.
According to the i24NEWS channel, the accused had been acting for several months under the direction of a Hamas handler based in Cyprus. The hotel employee transmitted classified information regarding the operation of checkpoints, the deployment of security forces, and various facilities across the country. Later, he began deliberately collecting data on military personnel and security force members staying at his hotel. The investigation also revealed that the suspect planned to carry out a suicide bombing.
Special attention in the case files is given to how this individual was hired. Investigators emphasize that the accused secured employment at the hotel without any obstacles, despite having prior security-related offenses.
