Israeli Government Approves National AI Development Strategy

The initiative sets a course for technological independence through the creation of a closed digital infrastructure and domestic microchip production

The Israeli cabinet approved an artificial intelligence development program initiated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The new document establishes the state’s transition to technological sovereignty. Authorities plan to start manufacturing domestic microchips, install one hundred thousand computing nodes for the public sector, and build a national quantum computer using strictly Israeli components.

Previously, national security relied heavily on foreign cloud services and imported hardware. This situation posed serious risks amid global crises or potential technological embargoes. Now, the state is eliminating this vulnerability. An independent digital ecosystem guarantees the stable operation of the defense industry and civilian departments without exposure to external pressure.

The new National Artificial Intelligence Institute will support the project, bringing together scientists, officials, and private investors. Neural networks will help modernize the defense complex, strengthen cyber protection, and identify deepfakes. Erez Askal, head of the relevant headquarters, emphasized that these steps will strengthen the country’s international position in the coming decades.
