Yann LeCun Calls Elon Musk’s AI Startup xAI a Failure

Meta’s chief AI scientist Yann LeCun declared the xAI startup a failure. The expert predicted the ultimate collapse of Elon Musk’s neural network initiatives, noting that the company can no longer compete with leading artificial intelligence laboratories.
For a long time, Musk positioned his project as an independent player in the technology market. However, the startup now leases the computing power of its Colossus data center to direct competitors — Anthropic and Google. LeCun called this business model a clear sign of weakness.
LeCun identified the project’s reputational issues as an additional factor in its likely downfall. The head of xAI will find it difficult to hire top-tier engineers after it became known that he behaved inappropriately towards the startup’s original co-founders. The industry is receiving a clear signal: releasing cutting-edge products requires a stable team, not just hardware resources.
