Israel to Change Speeding Thresholds: Traffic Police Reconfigure A-3 Speed Cameras

Israeli traffic police are reconfiguring stationary A-3 speed cameras to tighten control on dangerous road sections. The new trigger parameters will depend on localized accident statistics and traffic density.

Israeli speed cameras are being recalibrated to operate under stricter enforcement thresholds as traffic police lower the speeds at which violations are recorded across the country. In the coming days, technicians will reconfigure stationary A-3 radar systems on road sections with high crash rates. Authorities set the parameters for individual cameras based on accident statistics, traffic volume, and specific road conditions.

On some roads with a 70 km/h speed limit, reconfigured cameras may begin recording speeding violations at around 75 km/h. However, police emphasize that there is no single nationwide tolerance threshold for all speed cameras. The trigger point varies by location and may be adjusted based on ongoing traffic-safety assessments.

Drivers are advised to follow the posted speed limits rather than rely on informal assumptions about enforcement tolerance. Authorities are not disclosing the full list of camera locations that will be recalibrated in advance. The changes are expected to result in more speeding fines on high-risk road sections.
