Jerusalem parking rates rise: new municipal fees take effect on August 11

Jerusalem parking rates increased on August 11, as municipal company Eden introduced new fees at city-operated parking facilities. In the city center, the standard hourly rate for drivers without parking discounts rose from 18 to 22 shekels, an increase of approximately 22 percent. In most other parts of the city, the rate increased from 12 to 15 shekels per hour.
In the Talpiot area, the municipality retained the previous rate of 12 shekels per hour. City officials said the decision reflects extensive infrastructure and development work in the area and the need to maintain additional parking options for residents, visitors and local businesses.
Jerusalem residents eligible for the “Yerushalmi” municipal benefit will continue to pay the existing discounted rate of 11 shekels per hour. Charges are calculated according to the actual parking time.
The Jerusalem Municipality said the higher rates are intended to regulate demand for parking spaces in central areas, encourage greater use of public transportation, particularly the light rail, and address rising operating costs for parking facilities.
For drivers who park in central Jerusalem for several hours, the increase will be noticeable. A four-hour stay now costs 88 shekels, compared with 72 shekels previously — an increase of 16 shekels.
