EU sanctions against Russia: Kaja Kallas announces the largest restriction package since 2022

EU sanctions against Russia will form the core of a new restriction package that European diplomacy is preparing for the autumn. The EU foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, told the Die Welt newspaper that this initiative could become the largest since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Once the document is adopted, the number of sanctioned Russian individuals, companies, and organizations will increase by a third.
European Union representatives have not yet disclosed the specific composition of the upcoming document. The developers need to secure the approval of all EU member states for the restrictions to take legal effect. Currently, the discussions focus solely on planned measures, as the final sanctions package has not yet been adopted.
The European Union continues to increase economic pressure on Moscow to end the war. According to Kaja Kallas’s estimates, the existing restrictions have already caused more than 1 trillion euros in damage to the Russian military economy. The new measures will continue the current policy affecting Russia’s energy, financial, and defense sectors.
