The Lansky documentary series follows the man widely known in the United States as the “Mob’s Accountant.” Meir Lansky partnered with Lucky Luciano to establish the American crime syndicate, controlling gambling operations from New York to Havana and Las Vegas. Simultaneously, he provided secret support to the Zionist movement.
During the 1940s, Lansky leveraged his connections with dockworkers’ unions to smuggle weapons into Palestine and transferred funds to support the future State of Israel. The series highlights his attempt to obtain Israeli citizenship in the early 1970s while fleeing American justice. The Israeli government ultimately denied his request under the Law of Return, citing a threat to public order, despite considerable public sympathy.
