Post-Dated Checks in Israel Can Now Be Deposited via Mobile Apps

Beginning September 2, Israel has gradually started rolling out a new banking service that allows customers to deposit post-dated checks through mobile applications. The Bank of Israel said the service will be expanded in the coming weeks and is expected to become fully available by October 2026. Previously, banking apps could only be used to deposit checks intended for immediate payment. Customers can now photograph a paper check and upload it through their banking app, after which its digital image will be processed by the banking system and presented for payment on the specified date.
The initial rollout is subject to certain restrictions. The maximum value of a single check is 100,000 shekels, while the payment date may be up to 13 months in the future. The service will be available for checks bearing the mandatory “For Payee Only” endorsement. It is expected to operate around the clock, allowing customers to deposit checks without visiting bank branches or using dedicated banking machines.
The original check will not be transferred to the bank for storage. Instead, the physical document remains with the customer after its digital submission. According to the Bank of Israel, the new system is expected to reduce the time and costs associated with processing checks while improving the efficiency of banking operations. The regulator expects the ability to deposit post-dated checks remotely to make this method of payment more convenient for customers.
