Buenos Aires Proposes Renaming “State of Palestine” Street in Honor of the Bibas Family

In Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, an initiative is under consideration to rename “State of Palestine” Street to “Bibas Family Street.” The corresponding bill has been submitted to the city’s legislative assembly for review.

The proposal was introduced by city legislator Yamil Santoro. According to him, the renaming is intended as a symbolic act of remembrance for the Bibas family — Argentine-Israeli citizens who were killed as a result of the conflict in the Middle East.

“State of Palestine” Street is located in the Almagro neighborhood. Notably, it intersects with “State of Israel” Avenue, a junction that has previously been viewed as a symbolic reflection of the presence of both nations within the city’s toponymy.

At this stage, the renaming has not been approved. The bill remains under discussion and must receive majority support in the legislature and be officially published in the city’s registry of legal acts in order to take effect.
