BMW X5 (G65) Next-Generation Premiere: Five Powertrains, Hybrid, and EV—When the 2026 Model Arrives in Israel

Serial production of the new generation will kick off in August 2026 at BMW’s American plant in Spartanburg.

German automaker BMW has officially unveiled the fifth generation of its iconic X5 SUV, bearing the G65 internal codename. The vehicle marks a major technological breakthrough, becoming the brand’s first model to offer five distinct powertrain types on a single platform. Buyers will be able to choose between mild-hybrid gasoline and diesel versions, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and the all-electric iX5. Furthermore, a unique hydrogen-powered variant, the iX5 Hydrogen, developed in collaboration with Toyota, is slated for a 2028 release.

The design of the new X5 has undergone significant changes, adapting the styling of the fresh Neue Klasse family. The crossover retains the classic proportions of a full-size SUV but has grown in size—the body length now measures 499 centimeters (196.4 inches), while the wheelbase has stretched to 304 centimeters (119.6 inches). The exterior is defined by smooth surfaces, flush aerodynamic door handles integrated into the beltline, and new lighting clusters featuring distinctive X-shaped LED elements. The narrowed vertical kidney grilles are now enhanced by the signature Iconic Glow illumination.

The cabin has been completely reimagined in the spirit of digital minimalism. Physical buttons have virtually disappeared, with the control of most functions migrated to a massive 17.9-inch central touchscreen. For the first time, a dedicated 14.6-inch display is available for the front passenger. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with the innovative Panoramic Vision system, which projects vital navigation and driving data directly onto the lower section of the windshield across its entire width.

The all-electric BMW iX5 xDrive60 deserves special attention. It is equipped with an innovative battery boasting a capacity of over 141 kWh—the largest ever fitted to a production passenger car from the Bavarian brand. Dual electric motors deliver a combined output of 578 horsepower, while the claimed single-charge range reaches an impressive 845 kilometers (525 miles) on the WLTP cycle. The vehicle supports ultra-fast 800-volt DC charging at up to 460 kW, allowing the battery to replenish from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes.

Serial production of the new generation started in August 2026 at BMW’s American plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, which began manufacturing the all-electric variants for the first time. Based on the global rollout schedule and the traditional practices of the official importer, Delek Motors, the first internal combustion engine models are expected to arrive in the local market around the turn of 2026 and 2027. The all-electric and hybrid versions will likely join the Israeli lineup over the course of 2027.
