SpaceX Is Preparing a New Starlink Router with Wi-Fi 7: UTR-261 Appears in FCC Filings
SpaceX has developed a new Starlink router with Wi-Fi 7 support for satellite internet users. Details of the UTR-261 model appeared in official filings with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in August 2026. It is the first known Starlink model whose FCC documentation lists support for the 802.11be standard and EHT20 and EHT40 modes.
The UTR-261 is equipped with two Ethernet ports, a USB-C port, and support for Power over Ethernet (PoE). Wi-Fi 7 is designed to improve wireless network efficiency under heavy traffic and when many devices are connected simultaneously. The technology can improve connectivity between the router and devices on a home network, but it does not increase the underlying capacity of the satellite link.
The published documentation confirms that the device operates in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The specifications do not mention support for the 6 GHz band or 320 MHz-wide channels. The new model follows Starlink’s line of compact routers, succeeding the Router Mini (UTR-251), which received FCC certification in April 2025.
In July 2026, the FCC also granted SpaceX a conditional authorization valid through February 1, 2028. SpaceX has not yet announced the UTR-261’s price, launch date, or the contents of the retail package.
