Emirates Airlines Launches Starlink Internet on Airbus A380 for the First Time

Emirates has completed the installation of Starlink terminals on the world's first double-decker Airbus A380, providing passengers with free satellite internet throughout their entire commercial flight.

Emirates Airlines has completed certification and introduced the world’s first double-decker Airbus A380 equipped with the Starlink satellite system by SpaceX into commercial service. The airliner, registered as A6-EEA, is already operating regular flights, providing passengers across all cabin classes with free high-speed network access featuring a bandwidth exceeding 2 Gbps.

For years, the commercial aviation industry faced a significant technological barrier: traditional communication systems relied on geostationary satellites, leaving in-flight internet slow, expensive, and prone to dropping out during transoceanic flights. Now, this infrastructural gap has been definitively eliminated. Utilizing SpaceX’s low Earth orbit constellation and installing three receiver antennas simultaneously on the massive A380 fuselage has ensured a stable signal and home-network speeds across both decks of the airliner.

Implementing this new system on the world’s largest passenger aircraft sets an entirely new quality standard in civil aviation. By mid-2027, Emirates plans to equip over two hundred of its aircraft with Starlink terminals, transforming reliable high-speed internet from an exclusive privilege into a basic and universally accessible service for travelers.
