Binyanei HaUma Congress Center Named After Israel’s Ninth President Shimon Peres

The Jerusalem International Convention Center has been officially renamed after Shimon Peres. A ceremony marking the renaming of the Binyanei HaUma complex took place in Jerusalem on September 8, 2026, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the death of Israel’s ninth president and former prime minister.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion attended the official ceremony, along with members of Shimon Peres’s family and other dignitaries. The renaming honors Peres’s decades of service to the State of Israel.

Shimon Peres spent decades serving in Jerusalem as a member of the Knesset, a government minister, and prime minister. He regularly visited Binyanei HaUma and participated in historic events at the complex. Notably, in 2008, he launched the Presidential Conference, which brought world leaders to the venue.

During his speech, Mayor Moshe Lion described Shimon Peres as one of the architects of the State of Israel, emphasizing that the politician dedicated his life to building the country and ensuring its security. According to Lion, naming a historic building of such significance after Peres is a fitting tribute to his legacy.
