A New Chapter for the Israel Museum: Appointment of Yasha Grobman

The professional career of Yaakov Grobman is closely linked to architecture and science

The Israel Museum has officially announced its new director—Professor Yaakov (Yasha) Grobman. In March 2026, he will succeed Suzanne Landau, who has held the leadership position since autumn 2023.

Yaakov Grobman was born in Moscow in 1967 to the family of the renowned painter Mikhail Grobman. At the age of four, he immigrated to Israel with his parents. The future director’s educational background is distinguished: Grobman is a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, holds a PhD from the Technion, and completed his post-doctoral studies at Harvard University.

The professor’s professional career is deeply rooted in both architecture and academia. From 2019 to 2022, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning at the Technion. Additionally, Grobman is the founder of the firm Grobman Architects. According to the museum’s press office, Yaakov brings extensive experience in curating exhibitions and developing architectural concepts for major art venues.

“The Israel Museum is a cultural institution of global significance, and it is a great honor for me to lead it during such an important time. I am grateful to the Board of Directors for their support and look forward to working closely with the curators and the entire staff. Our shared goal is to continue strengthening the museum’s status as a leading international center for art and history,” stated Yaakov Grobman regarding his vision.
