Abbas Demands Apology and Compensation from the UK for the Balfour Declaration

Following the UK’s recognition of a Palestinian state, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced his intention to seek an official apology from London for the 1917 Balfour Declaration, which laid the foundation for the creation of a Jewish state.
According to several media reports, Palestinian representatives are considering demanding financial compensation from the UK. Experts cite a potential figure of up to £2 trillion as a possible “starting point” for reparations.
Ramallah claims that the century-old declaration is the root cause of the long-standing conflict and that London must therefore acknowledge its historical responsibility.
The UK has not yet officially commented on these statements. However, experts note that such initiatives could trigger new diplomatic disputes and complicate relations between the countries.
