Apple acquires Israeli startup TrueMeeting to enhance 3D avatars in Vision Pro

Apple has officially acquired the Israeli startup TrueMeeting, previously known as CommonGround AI, which specializes in developing realistic 3D avatar technologies. The deal, finalized in the first half of 2025, was approved by the Israel Competition Authority.
Founded in 2019 in Tel Aviv and Silicon Valley, TrueMeeting developed advanced solutions for creating realistic avatars in real time using smartphone facial scanning technology. Before the acquisition by Apple, the company had raised about $45 million from investors such as Grove Ventures, StageOne, and Matrix Partners.

The acquisition of TrueMeeting strengthens Apple’s efforts in spatial computing and virtual communication. In June, Apple unveiled improved Personas avatars in the latest version of visionOS, which are significantly more lifelike than previous models. Experts attribute this leap in quality directly to TrueMeeting’s technologies.
This deal also fits into Apple’s long-term strategy to expand its presence in Israel. The company has previously acquired Israeli firms such as PrimeSense, RealFace, and LinX, contributing to the development of cameras, Face ID, and AR technologies.
Although the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, analysts suggest the amount may be below the total investment TrueMeeting had previously raised. The team and technology have already been integrated into Apple’s R&D division in Israel.
Thus, the acquisition of TrueMeeting marks another step for Apple toward creating more realistic and personalized digital experiences within its ecosystem.
