Jerusalem’s Best Coffee Shops: Shaul Amsterdamski Creates a “Coffee Wikipedia”

It all started with one man’s initiative. Renowned Israeli journalist Shaul Amsterdamski* decided to systematize his knowledge of the city’s top coffee spots by creating an interactive platform called “Jerusalem of Coffee” (Yerushalayim shel Kafe).
Initially, Shaul populated the map himself with locations serving high-quality brews, but the project quickly evolved beyond a personal blog. Today, the website coffee.amsterdamski.com has become a full-fledged “Coffee Wikipedia” for Jerusalem, crowdsourced and curated by the residents themselves.
To encourage community engagement, Amsterdamski introduced a rewards system. Users can earn fun virtual badges for contributing to the map—whether by adding new locations, writing reviews, or creating themed collections known as “capsules.”
For locals, it has become more than just a way to find free Wi-Fi or a delicious croissant; it’s a digital quest that unites coffee lovers and tech enthusiasts. If you’re looking for a truly great cup of coffee, a cozy corner to work on your laptop, or the best milk foam in the city, the “Jerusalem of Coffee” project is a must-visit.
