Jerusalem: A New Phase of Construction Begins for the Blue Line Light Rail

On Monday, September 15, 2025, Jerusalem will begin a new phase of major construction for the Blue Line light rail. The work will focus on King George and Strauss streets, specifically the section between HaNevi’im and Ben Yehuda streets.
During the construction period:
- Public transport will be closed on this section.
- Bus routes will be rerouted to alternative paths.
- Pedestrian access will remain open.
- All shops and businesses will continue to operate as usual.
As part of the project, a two-kilometer tunnel will be built at the intersection of Jaffa and Strauss streets, in addition to other urban infrastructure developments.
Jerusalem’s municipality acknowledges that the work will inevitably cause some inconvenience for residents and visitors. However, they emphasize that in the long term, the project will significantly improve the capital’s transport system.
The “Blue Line”, designed to be a key transportation artery, will span 31 km. Its route will run from south to north, directly connecting the neighborhoods of Gilo and Ramot.
