Chen Lichtenstein Appointed ZIM CEO Ahead of $4.2 Billion Hapag-Lloyd Merger

Israeli shipping company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services has finalized its leadership transition. Chen Lichtenstein has officially taken over as President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Eli Glickman.

Chen Lichtenstein assumed the role of CEO at ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, officially beginning his tenure on July 1, 2026. He joined the company’s board of directors, replacing Eli Glickman, who led the maritime carrier for nearly nine years. Lichtenstein’s appointment represents a critical step in preparing the organization for the upcoming changes in its ownership structure.

Prior to joining ZIM, Chen Lichtenstein built his career outside the maritime logistics industry, holding executive positions in major global corporations. Between 2014 and 2020, he served as the CEO of the chemical company ADAMA. Subsequently, he worked as the Chief Financial Officer at Syngenta Group until 2023, where he managed strategy, integration, and business efficiency improvements.

The leadership change occurs as ZIM prepares for its acquisition by the German company Hapag-Lloyd, operating in partnership with the Israeli FIMI Opportunity Funds. The transaction, signed in February 2026, is valued at approximately $4.2 billion. Shareholders of the shipping enterprise have already approved the agreement.

The closing of the deal is expected by the end of 2026, as the process remains subject to pending regulatory approvals. A primary requirement is obtaining clearance from the State of Israel under the government’s “golden share” mechanism.

Chairman Yair Seroussi stated that the new executive’s international management experience will guide the company through this extensive structural integration.
