Church of the Holy Sepulchre Doors in Jerusalem Sent for Restoration

The heavy 12th-century wooden doors have been removed from the main entrance of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Over 800 years old, the structure has significantly deteriorated over recent decades. By mutual agreement of the Christian denominations governing the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the decision was made to restore them in full compliance with historical and canonical requirements.
While the original doors are in the workshop, temporary panels featuring high-precision photocopies of the leaves have been installed at the entrance. Visually, the facade remains virtually unchanged—a crucial detail for the pilgrims who visit Jerusalem’s Old City every year.
The restoration is expected to take several months. The original doors will be reinforced, treated with protective coatings, and returned to their historical place.
