Israel Performs First Ever Total Artificial Heart Transplant

Israeli doctors have successfully performed the country’s first transplant of a fully artificial heart, marking a major breakthrough in cardiac surgery.

Doctors at the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem have successfully implanted a fully artificial heart in a patient, marking the first procedure of its kind in Israeli history.

The device, developed by the French company CARMAT, is made of biocompatible materials and includes mechanical chambers, valves, and sensors that can automatically regulate blood flow and volume according to the patient’s condition.

The recipient, a 60-year-old man, was suffering from severe heart failure and was previously considered unsuitable for a traditional transplant. Thanks to the surgery, his condition has stabilized and he has already begun the rehabilitation process.

Professor Rabia Asleh, the cardiac surgeon who performed the operation, called it a “historic breakthrough” and emphasized that the new device could save the lives of thousands waiting for donor hearts.
“This gives hope to those who previously had no chance of survival,” he noted.
