First electric garbage trucks commissioned in Jerusalem

Today, the Jerusalem municipality’s fleet was bolstered by its first electric garbage trucks. An official commissioning ceremony took place at the maintenance center in Givat Shaul, attended by Mayor Moshe Lion and Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman.

The city’s cleaning services received 5 new vehicles. The main feature of this equipment is its near-total silence and zero exhaust emissions. This will allow for trash collection in densely populated areas and the capital’s narrow quarters without disturbing residents with noise or polluting the air.

Previously (in 2025), the Ministry of Environmental Protection allocated approximately 8 million NIS for 20 zero-emission electric garbage trucks for 11 municipalities, including Jerusalem. This is part of a national program to reduce air pollution.
