Google Unveils Offline AI Gemma 4 12B: Artificial Intelligence Works Without the Internet on a Regular Laptop

The Google DeepMind division has officially introduced Gemma 4 12B—a new open language model designed to run locally. Now, a fully fledged AI can be deployed on an average laptop without the need to maintain a constant network connection.
The system’s functionality allows it to autonomously solve complex tasks. The model can process datasets, write code, create visualizations, and work with third-party tools. Moreover, not a single byte of information leaves the device to be processed on remote servers.
A key focus during development was placed on privacy. Through integration with the Google AI Edge software environment, users get the opportunity to work in a completely isolated offline mode, maintaining absolute control over their personal and corporate data.
The emergence of such solutions demonstrates an important technological shift. Powerful artificial intelligence is ceasing to be an exclusively “cloud-based” technology and is gradually becoming an independent tool that lives and functions directly on personal devices.
