Hasmonean, Herodian, and Roman Era Coins Seized in East Jerusalem

About 450 coins, including authentic ancient specimens and modern counterfeits, were discovered in the home of an East Jerusalem resident.

About 450 ancient and counterfeit coins were seized this week from the home of an East Jerusalem resident. The coins were hidden in a planter box on a balcony.

The seizure took place during a joint raid by the Israel Antiquities Authority, the Israel Police, and the Border Police (MAGAV). Among the findings are coins from the Hasmonean, Herodian, and Roman periods.

Some of the coins were inlaid into jewelry, while others, according to the investigation, were intended for illegal export abroad.
