Israel Passes Law Criminalizing Cooperation with the International Criminal Court

Under the legislation, Israeli citizens and organizations found collaborating with the ICC could face up to five years in prison, unless they can prove they were unaware of the consequences of their actions.

The Knesset has approved a new law that introduces criminal penalties for cooperating with the International Criminal Court (ICC). Under the legislation, Israeli citizens and organizations found collaborating with the ICC could face up to five years in prison, unless they can prove they were unaware of the consequences of their actions.

The bill, initiated by Likud MK Amit Halevi, was supported by 25 lawmakers, with 11 voting against. In addition to criminal penalties, the law also bans individuals connected to the ICC from entering Israel or acquiring property in the country.

Legal experts have criticized the law for its vague language, warning that it could potentially apply even to social media users who share content that might later be used by the ICC in investigations related to alleged war crimes.
