Israel’s Tourism Industry Faces Severe Crisis: 80% Decline Since October 2023

Israel's tourism industry is down 80%, facing massive cancellations and empty hotels. Urgent government support and strategic recovery measures needed.

Israel’s tourism industry is experiencing one of the worst crises in its history, with an 80% decline in foreign visitors since the war began on October 7, 2023. Despite partial stabilization and the reopening of airspace, the sector remains deeply troubled.

Asaf Ben-Ari, CEO of tourism company Bein Harim, stated: “Hotels are almost empty, bookings are being massively canceled, and tour operators are in standby mode. People are understandably scared.”

Security fears remain a primary obstacle to recovery, and although restrictions introduced during the conflict with Iran are gradually being lifted, tourist confidence is returning slowly. Many major tourism companies are adapting their business models, shifting towards local tourism and premium individual tours.

Experts warn that without immediate government support and strategic initiatives to boost the country’s international image, the tourism industry risks significant bankruptcies, job losses, and billions in revenue. Full recovery could take until the end of 2025 or beyond.
