Jerusalem Light Rail: New Launch Timeline for the Green Line

The Green Line will span approximately 21 kilometers, featuring 40 stations along the route

The commissioning of Jerusalem’s Green Line light rail has been delayed once again. Originally scheduled for January 30, 2026, and later pushed to March, the latest forecasts from the economic publication Calcalist now indicate that passengers will not be able to use the new route until at least May 2026.

Factors causing the delay.

The primary obstacle to completing the work has been a severe labor shortage, triggered by the mobilization of reservists and the suspension of entry permits for Palestinian workers.

Route and scale of the project.

The Green Line will span approximately 21 kilometers. The line will feature 40 stations, connecting the southern neighborhood of Gilo to Mount Scopus in the north. The route is designed as a vital transport artery for the city, passing through Malha, the Government Quarter, and several other significant residential and business districts.
