Jerusalem’s Old City Reopens: Restrictions on Holy Sites Lifted

The decision was made against the backdrop of a declared two-week truce between the U.S., Israel, and Iran.

JERUSALEM, April 9, 2026— The Israel Police have lifted the ban on visiting holy sites in the Old City of Jerusalem. The restrictions, which were introduced due to the threat of rocket fire during the conflict with Iran, were cancelled as of Thursday morning, April 9.

Starting today, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Western Wall, and Al-Aqsa Mosque are open to visitors and worshippers. The limitations had been in place for nearly 40 days.

This decision follows the update of Home Front Command directives and comes amid a declared two-week truce between the U.S., Israel, and Iran.

Security has been bolstered in the Old City, with hundreds of police officers and border guards ensuring public order. Authorities are urging the public to remain cautious and stay tuned for further updates.
