Knesset to Discuss Complete Ban on Flavor Additives in Smoking Products

The Knesset’s Economic Committee will consider a new bill aimed at tightening regulations on smoking products in Israel. Initiated by MK Eli Dalla, the bill proposes a complete ban on the sale and manufacturing of smoking products containing flavor and aromatic additives.
This includes flavored cigarettes, e-cigarette liquids, hookah tobacco mixtures, and other products designed to enhance or soften the smoking experience. Additionally, the bill prohibits additives like menthol and fruit flavors, which reduce irritation and make smoking more pleasant.
The primary goal of this legislation is to reduce smoking attractiveness among teenagers and young adults. According to the Ministry of Health, approximately 53% of adolescents first try e-cigarettes through flavored liquids, with the average age of initial smoking experiences at just 13 years.
The Ministry of Health and the Israel Cancer Association support the bill, emphasizing that flavored products often serve as a “poison apple,” leading to nicotine addiction.
The Knesset’s Economic Committee will convene on Monday morning to discuss the proposal, with its approval expected to mark a significant step toward combating youth smoking in Israel.
