By January 27: Statistics on Holocaust Survivors in the World and in Israel

January 27 marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
To commemorate this date, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has released updated data on the number of people who survived the Shoah.
It is estimated that approximately 200,000 Holocaust survivors remain in the world today. Nearly half of them—about 111,000 people—reside in Israel, making it the country with the largest community of survivors. Following Israel are the USA (approximately 16%), France (9%), Russia (7%), and Germany (5%).
In Israel, 62% of Holocaust survivors are women. The average age of those receiving assistance from the Ministry is 87, with 413 individuals having passed the 100-year milestone. In 2025 alone, approximately 12,000 survivors passed away.
These statistics highlight how rapidly the generation of Holocaust witnesses is fading away. In these circumstances, it becomes increasingly important to care for the survivors, preserve their personal testimonies, and pass on the memory of the tragedy to future generations.
