NVIDIA Nemotron VoiceChat: Open-Weight Voice AI Featuring External Tool Integration

NVIDIA has launched Nemotron VoiceChat, a model engineered to build interactive voice assistants. The 12-billion-parameter technology incorporates natural interruption support and seamless integration with third-party services.

NVIDIA has introduced Nemotron 3 VoiceChat, a 12-billion-parameter model designed to power natural, real-time voice AI assistants. The technology supports full-duplex voice interaction, allowing the system to listen to the user while generating a response instead of requiring the user to finish speaking first. A key feature of Nemotron 3 VoiceChat is its ability to handle natural interruptions during conversations.

A user can interrupt the assistant while it is responding, prompting the system to stop generating its current response and continue the conversation based on the new input. NVIDIA positions the model as a foundation for voice agents designed to interact with people in real time with minimal latency. It can also be integrated into agentic systems that use external tools and services.

This allows developers to build assistants that go beyond basic speech generation and connect voice interfaces with applications and software systems. The tools available to a voice agent depend on how the overall system is implemented. Nemotron 3 VoiceChat functions as an integrated speech-to-speech system that combines speech processing, language modeling, and voice generation.

By combining these capabilities within a single system, the architecture reduces the number of intermediary steps between a user’s speech and the assistant’s response, enabling smoother and more responsive conversations. NVIDIA says Nemotron 3 VoiceChat has approximately 12 billion parameters and provides open model weights along with deployment tools.

The offering allows developers and enterprises to create specialized voice applications and deploy the model in controlled environments. Self-hosted deployment can be particularly relevant for organizations that require greater control over how voice data is processed. Potential applications include voice assistants, contact centers, automotive systems, interactive characters, and other scenarios that require rapid two-way communication with AI.

The launch of Nemotron 3 VoiceChat reflects a broader shift from conventional chatbots toward voice AI agents that can not only answer questions but also interact with external systems and perform tasks. NVIDIA is focusing on natural, real-time conversations combined with the ability to connect voice interfaces to tools and applications.
