Chef Rima Olvera Closes Oasis Restaurant in Tel Aviv After 14 Years

The closure of Oasis follows a broader trend in the Tel Aviv restaurant market, where several major establishments have shut down in recent months

The popular Tel Aviv restaurant Oasis is shutting down. Its owner and head chef, Rima Olvera, has officially confirmed that the establishment is closing 14 years after its opening. This decision is a significant event for the city’s dining scene, as Oasis has long been considered one of Israel’s most prominent independent culinary projects.

Olvera cited personal disillusionment with business management as the primary reason for the closure. In her statements, she openly addressed staffing issues, specifically highlighting instances of theft by managers and employees. According to the chef, the constant struggle with staff misconduct, combined with the general economic climate in the industry, made continuing the business unfeasible.

Oasis first opened in 2012 on Tchernichovsky Street before later moving to a new location on Montefiore Street. Olvera maintained personal control over all operations, from sourcing ingredients to crafting the daily menu. Despite the move to a larger space and a loyal customer base, internal business challenges proved decisive. The property is currently listed for sale.

The closure of Oasis follows a broader trend in the Tel Aviv restaurant market, which has seen several major establishments close in recent months. Experts attribute this to a sharp rise in operating costs, labor shortages, and declining profitability. Rima Olvera thanked her customers for their years of support but emphasized that, at this stage, she is not prepared to continue operating under current conditions.
