Roman Gofman Launches Internal Reforms and an Independent Reinvestigation of the October 7 Events

The new head of Israeli intelligence is revising the agency's key approaches. Roman Gofman has created a council of external experts and plans an independent investigation into the October 7 events.

The new head of Mossad, Roman Gofman, has initiated a structural reorganization of the agency. He formed a special council of five external experts to revise the strategy regarding the Iranian direction and canceled several upcoming operations due to disagreement with their goals, methods, and overall necessity.

Previously, the agency relied on approaches and investigations approved by the former head, David (Dedi) Barnea. Journalist Ben Caspit notes that Gofman rejected the conclusions of two internal reviews of the October 7 failure. Now, Israeli intelligence is initiating a new independent investigation, drastically changing its tactic of assessing its own mistakes and the principles of operational planning.

The actions of the new leader have already received an evaluation in the professional community. A former senior intelligence official stated in an interview with Maariv that Gofman acts decisively, thinks outside the box, and rejects untouchable concepts. Experts note a new working standard: Mossad is shifting to a more pragmatic and independent analysis of threats.
