Shon Pero Returns: Israeli Fighter Set to Face Renan Gama at Thunder Fight 49

Israeli MMA fighter Shon Pero returns to the cage on May 25 at Thunder Fight 49 in São Paulo, facing Brazil's Renan Gama while representing Fighting Nerds.

After a string of cancellations and last-minute opponent withdrawals, Israeli MMA fighter Shon Pero is finally making his return to the cage. He is set to face Brazilian fighter Renan Gama on May 25 at Thunder Fight 49, held in São Paulo, Brazil. Pero will represent the Fighting Nerds club.

“I received a lot of support from the club throughout my preparation,” said Pero in an interview with a sports news site. “The management and the team have been with me every step of the way. I’ll walk into the cage wearing their signature glasses, and maybe I’ll keep representing them in the future. We’ll see how things evolve.”

Renan Gama, 24, holds a professional record of 3–5. He began his career with five losses in six bouts but bounced back with two consecutive wins — one by judges’ decision and another by opponent disqualification.

“I’ve been waiting for this fight for a long time, and it came as a surprise,” added Pero. “I went through a lot of chaos, but the fight is finally confirmed. I’ll proudly represent Fighting Nerds in the octagon.”

He continued: “This club is a perfect fit for me — their fighting style fits me like a glove. You’ll see a new, improved Shon. I’ll enter the cage with a Druze-Israeli flag and a T-shirt supporting the kidnapped civilians.”

Shon concluded by thanking his sponsors and supporters: “Thank you to everyone who stood by me. Since arriving at the training camp, I’ve had full support. Special thanks to Shi HaGai Energy for backing me, and to the Orev Center for Personal Development, which gave me a major mental boost. I also received donations from private individuals to fund the camp. My victory will be yours too.”

This fight is not just a return to action — it’s a turning point in Pero’s career and a symbolic moment, as he officially represents Fighting Nerds for the first time.
