Israel Receives Approval to Compete in 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta

Israel will compete for the first time in the gymnastics World Championships in Indonesia, a country without diplomatic relations. Historic FIG decision.

Israel’s national gymnastics team will compete at the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. This decision marks a historic milestone, as it will be Israel’s first official participation in a major global sporting event hosted by a country with no diplomatic relations with Israel.

Although Israeli gymnasts regularly participate in international competitions under the auspices of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), political barriers have historically prevented their entry into countries that do not recognize Israel. Previously, such countries often refused entry to Israeli delegations, triggering international criticism.

In 2025, Indonesian authorities officially gave the “green light” to Israel’s participation, an unprecedented decision. Israel’s Ministry of Culture and Sport hailed this as “a victory of sport over politics.” The Israeli Gymnastics Federation confirmed that preparations by the athletes are already underway.

“For us, it’s an opportunity to represent our country on equal terms. We’ve waited a long time for this moment,” said Noa Weinstein, a gymnast on the national team.

Championship organizers assured the safety of all delegations, including Israel’s. Experts believe Israel’s participation will strengthen competition and enhance the tournament’s international prestige.

The championship will take place from October 15 to 20, 2025, with more than 70 participating countries expected.
