Ukraine to Receive Upgraded Patriot Air Defense System from Israel

In the coming months, Ukraine will strengthen its air defense capabilities with an upgraded Patriot system previously stationed in Israel. According to Western media reports, the system was recently decommissioned and is currently undergoing major refurbishment before being transferred to the Ukrainian military. The delivery is expected in the summer of 2025.

Earlier, the United States had already provided Ukraine with approximately 90 Patriot interceptor missiles from Israeli stockpiles. These missiles, stored in Israel since the early 1990s, were supplied for training purposes and are now actively used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to counter aerial threats.
Negotiations are also underway with Ukraine’s allies — including Germany and Greece — regarding the potential transfer of additional Patriot systems. An agreement is expected ahead of the NATO summit in June 2025.
As of now, Ukraine operates eight Patriot systems, six of which are deployed to protect critical infrastructure, including the capital. Two more systems are currently being upgraded. With the upcoming Israeli delivery and possible contributions from European countries, the total number of operational Patriot units could rise to ten.
