US Navy intercepts a tanker flying the Russian flag in the Atlantic
The U.S. military conducted an operation to seize a vessel involved in the evasion of sanction restrictions.
The United States Navy has detained the tanker Marinera in the Atlantic Ocean while it was sailing under the Russian flag. The vessel was previously known as Bella 1.
The tanker is under sanctions and is part of the so-called “shadow fleet” used to transport oil for Russia, Iran, and Venezuela in circumvention of restrictions imposed by the United States and its allies.
The vessel is owned by the Turkish company Louis Marine Shipholding Enterprises SA, which, according to available information, is linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Houthis, and Hezbollah.
