YouTube is testing Auto Speed and On-the-go: automatic video acceleration and a new simplified player

The new *”Auto Speed”* feature changes the video speed on its own: it speeds up through “filler” and pauses, while returning to normal tempo during important moments. The idea is simple—to get the viewer to the point faster and avoid wasting time on unnecessary content.
Parallel to this, an “On-the-go” mode will appear—a simplified player with a minimal set of buttons. This feature is designed for those who listen to videos in the background or while moving, to prevent accidental switching to another video. It can be activated automatically (for example, when the user is in motion) or turned on manually.
Both features are experimental and available exclusively to YouTube Premium subscribers. Testing is being conducted selectively—not in all regions and not for all users.
