NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Admits He Lacks Authority to Arrest Netanyahu
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani acknowledged that he cannot arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu under the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant. He clarified that city officials lack the necessary legal authority without federal government backing.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani cannot execute the International Criminal Court warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu without federal involvement. Mamdani officially admitted that city authorities do not have the legal jurisdiction to carry out the arrest.
While a pledge to arrest the Israeli leader was previously a key component of Mamdani’s mayoral campaign, he has now acknowledged that enforcing such a measure falls entirely outside his authority.
This is not the first campaign promise Mamdani has failed to deliver on. The politician previously campaigned heavily on making city buses fare-free, a highly publicized initiative that ultimately hit financial and bureaucratic roadblocks and was never fully realized.
