Jerusalem Green Line Light Rail: First Section with 13 Stations Opens
The Jerusalem Green Line light rail officially opens to passengers this coming Friday. The newly launched L3 route section features 13 stations, running from the Malha neighborhood to HaTurim Station. This final stop sits adjacent to the Central Bus Station and the Yitzhak Navon train station. The route directly links the downtown area with the Hebrew University campus in Givat Ram, the botanical garden, and local sports facilities.
The opening of this new light rail section follows several months of operational trials. Test runs along the track between Malha and HaTurim allowed engineers to finalize technical protocols and secure mandatory safety approvals. The launch of the Green Line complements the currently active Red Line and improves public transit connections across major Jerusalem districts.
The complete Green Line network will eventually provide direct travel from the Gilo neighborhood in the south to Mount Scopus in the northern part of Jerusalem. The city is commissioning new track sections in distinct phases. Municipal authorities plan to open the northern route segments, which pass through ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods, around 2027.
