The book by Israeli citizen Eli Sharabi, who spent 491 days in Hamas captivity, has received wide international recognition. Titled “Hostage”, it was published in Hebrew in Israel in May 2025 and immediately became a bestseller, selling over 70,000 copies in the first five days.

The English version of the book, released by HarperCollins on October 7, 2025, immediately entered The New York Times bestseller list, reaching the fourth position.

The publication received high praise from international media outlets, including The New York Times, TIME, and The Washington Post, which described the book as a testament to survival, resilience, and the strength of the human spirit.

“Hostage” is the first firsthand account from an Israeli who survived nearly a year and a half in Hamas captivity, and its success underscores the global attention to the tragedy of the hostages and the importance of human resilience.
