Canada Revokes Entry Permit for Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Arieh King
Canada revoked the electronic travel authorization for Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Arieh King shortly before his scheduled North American tour. The politician planned to attend several events in Toronto and Montreal. His itinerary included a meeting organized by the Israel Now group. Following the Canadian government’s decision, King delivered one of his speeches via video link.
Israeli media attribute the entry ban to the deputy mayor’s political activities. King actively opposes the presence of UNRWA in Jerusalem. The politician also supports the Jewish settlement movement in the eastern part of the city. King echoed these claims, describing the permit cancellation as the outcome of an organized campaign against his work.
The revocation followed pressure from Canadian and international activists. Representatives of several organizations submitted appeals to the authorities and filed complaints with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The activists alleged the Israeli official’s involvement in international law violations. The Canadian government has not issued a public statement, though immigration rules permit the cancellation of travel documents if an individual is deemed inadmissible.
