The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Strengthens Its Position in the Global Shanghai Ranking

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem continues to reaffirm its status as one of the world’s leading academic institutions. According to the newly released 2025 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), the university has secured a spot in the global top 50 across four key disciplines.
Specifically, the university ranked 15th worldwide in Mathematics, 16th in Communications, 23rd in Public Policy, and 34th in Law. These results highlight the strengths of Israel’s higher education system in both fundamental and applied sciences, as well as its contribution to global research.
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion expressed pride in the university’s achievements in a post on Instagram. “The Hebrew University, as a strategically important institution for the future of our country, operates in the heart of Jerusalem and conducts research that places Israel at the forefront of global academia,” he noted. According to the mayor, the city will continue supporting an environment that fosters innovation and groundbreaking discoveries.
The Shanghai Ranking, published annually by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, evaluates more than 5,000 higher education institutions worldwide based on criteria such as scientific publications, citation rates, and international collaboration. The achievements of the Hebrew University not only enhance Israel’s academic prestige but also attract talented students and researchers from around the world.
