“Million Protest” in Jerusalem: Ultra-Orthodox to Demonstrate Against Army Draft

This coming Thursday, October 30th, Jerusalem may face a state of traffic paralysis due to what is expected to be the largest demonstration in the history of the ultra-Orthodox communities. The rally, dubbed the “Million Protest,” is directed against the decision to draft Yeshiva students into the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and is scheduled to begin at 14:30 at the Chords Bridge.
Organizers estimate that hundreds of thousands of participants —representing various streams and Hasidic groups – will attend the rally. This event is anticipated to be one of the most massive demonstrations in the country’s history.
Authorities warn of severe traffic jams both within Jerusalem and on the city’s main entry points. Hundreds of buses carrying protesters are expected to arrive from all over Israel. The police are preparing to close key roads and restrict vehicle traffic to ensure public order and safety.
The Jerusalem Municipality urges residents to plan their routes in advance, avoid the city center where possible, and utilize public transportation.
