Six-ton Western Wall fragment returns to Jerusalem from IDF headquarters

Minister Katz emphasized that the move is a "symbolic and moral act," returning a piece of Jewish history to its natural environment.

A landmark six-ton artifact, which has remained on the grounds of the defense headquarters in Tel Aviv for decades, will be transported to Jerusalem in the coming days. Defense Minister Israel Katz approved the transfer of the stone following discussions with the Rabbi of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinowitz.

The return of the relic is part of a broader initiative to recover and reunite fragments of the sacred structure that have become scattered across the country over the years (including sites such as Ben Gurion Airport). According to Jewish law, these stones possess a unique sanctity and cannot be used for secular purposes; therefore, they will be placed in a specialized storage facility in the Old City.

Minister Katz emphasized that this move is a “symbolic and moral act,” returning a piece of Jewish history to its natural environment. The Israel Antiquities Authority has confirmed its readiness to ensure the careful transportation of the object in accordance with religious guidelines.
